2011 Social Entrepreneurship Seminar for Afghan Fulbright Students
Miami University - Oxford, Ohio
September 28 - October 2, 2011
More than 60 Afghan students attended the 2011 Social Entrepreneurship Seminar for Afghan Fulbright Students from September 28 - October 2 on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The seminar taught the participants ways to employ entrepreneurial skills to address persistent social problems and advance sustainable social change following their return to Afghanistan.
During the seminar, the students had the opportunity to interact with faculty and practitioners in the social entrepreneurship field and benefited from workshops and networking activities. Students also enjoyed cultural activities, home stays with local families and a visit to a Cincinnati non-profit food bank to learn how social entrepreneurship has impacted the United States. As the capstone of the seminar, participants conducted case study projects in small groups to develop an innovative project, product or service to solve challenging social problems in Afghanistan. The case study projects focused on developing entrepreneurial skills in key priority areas for Afghanistan, including education, engineering/infrastructure, international relations, public administration and public health.
