March 2007 Meeting

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board’s meeting in March 2007 focused on ways to increase the outreach of the Fulbright Program. As part of this special session, the Board invited Professor Ted Gup of Case Western Reserve University to talk to the Board about some of the ideas he had first put forward as a member of a panel about Visibility in the Fulbright Program that was held in Paris in 2006 at the meeting of the Fulbright Commission Executive Directors of Europe. FSB members Jean Becker and Yousif Ghafari attended that meeting and Jean Becker was also on the Visibility panel. The Board also heard from some of those working directly with the Fulbright Program on initiatives in outreach, including Heidi Manley, Special Projects Officer, Office of Academic Exchange Program in ECA; Tony Claudino, Director of Fulbright Student Program Outreach, IIE; Nancy Santos Gainer, Director of External Relations, CIES; Melynda Benlemlih, Program Officer, Fulbright Teacher Exchange Branch, ECA and Jennifer Nupp, Program Administrator, Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, Graduate School, USDA.
