March 2009 Meeting
On March 2-3, 2009, the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) held its quarterly meeting in Washington, DC. The Chair welcomed Gary R. Edson, Managing Director of Stonebridge International, Anita B. McBride, Former Chief of Staff to Former First Lady Laura Bush and Robert D. McCallum, Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to Australia, to the Board. FSB Chair Shirley M. Green briefed the Board about her participation in an international forum held in Warsaw, Poland, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the U.S.-Poland Fulbright Program. The Chair paid tribute to the Program on its golden anniversary, recognizing the strong bilateral partnership that resulted in a new agreement that was signed last year. Other highlights of the Board meeting included presentations made by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs C. Miller Crouch, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs Marianne Craven, Director of the Office of Academic Exchange Programs Rosalind Swenson, and Chief of the Europe and Eurasia Programs Branch Benedict Duffy. On March 4, several members of the Board attended a reception in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission, hosted at the residence of the U.K. Ambassador to the United States Sir Nigel Sheinwald. The Ambassador and Acting Assistant Secretary Crouch gave remarks.
