May 2004 Meeting The Board broke with the longstanding tradition of meeting in Washington, DC, and held its quarterly meeting on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Board Member John Sibley Butler, Professor of Management and Sociology at the McCombs School of Business at the UT-Austin, hosted the meeting, which began with a reception for the Board Members on May 10. The reception was attended by the University's President Dr. Larry Faulkner (shown in the photo far right with Board Members), as well as other university faculty and administrators. Also in attendance were Fulbrighters on exchange at UT-Austin and other institutions in the Austin area. During the day-long meeting, chaired by Stephen Uhlfelder, the Board heard reports on the Fulbright Program from U.S. Department of State's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs Thomas Farrell, IIE Vice President Mary Kirk, and two panels. The panels consisted of UT-Austin administrators who coordinate U.S. and visiting student international exchange programs, current Fulbrighters, and alumni.
