Gary Edson Member Mr. Gary R. Edson is Chief Executive Officer of PlayPumps International U.S. and Chief International Officer and Senior Vice President of the Case Foundation. His career has spanned the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
Mr. Edson previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor and Deputy Assistant to President George W. Bush for International Economic Affairs, coordinating, among other things, the launch of the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the Millennium Challenge Corporation to fight global poverty. Earlier in his career, he was General Counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative, and Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State. Mr. Edson’s business experience has ranged from the Fortune 100 to private equity, with a focus on turnarounds. He headed a Chicago-based private equity firm, ECG, Inc., which acquired, among other companies, PAR Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of computer-integrated robotics. Prior to joining the Case Foundation, Mr. Edson was Managing Director at Stonebridge International LLC, a global strategic consulting firm. Mr. Edson has served as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Special Olympics, and helped establish Malaria No More. He is Chairman of Deworm the World, a nonprofit launched by an affiliate of the World Economic Forum to combat tropical diseases that infect 400 million children worldwide. He is Senior Advisor to Civic Enterprises, a public policy firm that helps corporations, nonprofits, and foundations develop innovative public policies. Mr. Edson holds a B.A. degree in anthropology with honors from Stanford University and received his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from The University of Chicago. He was a Henry Luce Scholar and worked as a reporter on The Japan Times in Tokyo. Mr. Edson was appointed to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board by President George W. Bush in January 2009.
