Zheng Zhai English Instructor Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing, China Host: Carroll College, Montana, United States Dates of Grant: August 19, 2005 - May 15, 2006 Zheng Zhai, who spent 2005-06 teaching Chinese to students at Montana’s Carroll College as a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant, says, “As a curious traveler and avid photographer, I took thousands of pictures in the U.S. Putting them online and maintaining a blog, I encouraged my friends and students back home to see the country through my own lens and discuss my observations with me.” Since his return to China, Zheng has offered a survey course in English at Beijing Foreign Studies University on topics such as: cultural diversity, American history, the key values and character of the American people, and an overview of Sino-American relations. His course is now required for first and second-year English and Journalism majors.
