I was a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (UWM) for ten months in 2005.  The university campus was a small and urban.  Hence, I was in close contact with city life and the people of Milwaukee.  What astonished me the most was their friendliness and hospitality.  Besides conducting good research for my Ph.D. at the UWM, I am very glad to have experienced the Midwestern lifestyle and people in the U.S.
