Zakaria Al Sheibani Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant from Oman Host: Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan Dates of Grant: August 22, 2007 – May 10, 2008

On April 7, 2009 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Alumnus Zakaria Al Sheibani delivered a presentation on his Fulbright experience in the U.S. at a professional development workshop for the Ministry of Education.
Zakaria explained the history of the Fulbright program, starting with Senator William Fulbright and continuing to 2009, to the assembled teachers and teacher supervisors from the Ministry. Zakaria showed a slideshow of photos from his time in the U.S., and gave anecdotes about his experiences as a teacher and student in Michigan.
Zakaria’s presentation further bolstered the FLTA program’s reputation among young English teachers in Oman’s Ministry of Education, who see the FLTA program as an excellent way to grow professionally and advance in the Ministry. Oman’s Ministry of Education supplies the majority of FLTA participants from Oman and is a one of the Fulbright program’s strongest program partners.
