Nepal
More than 750 students and scholars have received Fulbright grants since the Program began in 1953, including more than 450 Nepali and approximately 300 Americans. Since 1961, the Fulbright Program with Nepal has been administered by a binational organization known as the Commission for Educational Exchange Between the United States and Nepal (USEF Nepal). The Fulbright Program in Nepal continues to support Nepal’s efforts at democratization and economic liberalization through the exchange of students and scholars in critical fields such as law, political science, journalism, the humanities, and business administration. The Commission has strengthened these fields by placing U.S. lecturers at both Tribhuvan and Kathmandu universities and by training future academics and government leaders through the Nepali student program.
Nepali Fulbright grantees have achieved national recognition in both the government and academia. Fulbright alumni serve as Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior government officers, and university deans. They also include several former ambassadors to the Nepal’s former ambassador to the United Nations, and individuals prominent in international organizations such as UNICEF and the World Wildlife Fund.
Grants are available annually for five to seven Nepali students to pursue a Master's degrees in the U.S. Post-doctoral research opportunities are also offered to a small number of Nepali scholars.
