Fulbright NEXUS Scholars Recognized for their Research

Fulbright NEXUS Scholar Mariana Conte Grand has been selected as a Lead Author for the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  She will join other colleagues from around the world in reporting on the topic of Mitigation of Climate Change.  This report will be the fifth iteration of the IPCC's regular assessments of available information on climate change, including current science and technology, and research that addresses climate change from a socioeconomic perspective.  More information about the Assessment Report and Mariana's role in the project can be found at the IPCC's Working Group III: Mitigation of climate Change website: http://www.ipcc-wg3.de/publications/assessment-reports.

Mariana has also been participating in seminars on environmental economics at several Californian institutions, including one on February 2 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and on February 15 at the University of California, Berkeley.

Fulbright NEXUS Scholar Raúl Vazquez presented his research at a technical workshop on Ecohydrology and its role in measuring ecological flows in high-altitude rivers in Cuenca, Ecuador on October 20, 2011.  By examining the relationship between water and ecosystems, the field Ecohydrology can help governments, engineers and others seeking renewable energy resources ensure that water flows can provide the benefits of hydro-power to human populations while still maintaining the speed, quality or other characteristics necessary to support river ecosystems.   A summary of his research was also recently published in an Ecuadorian newspaper.  You can read the article here (in Spanish).

On Thursday, February 9 Raúl will be presenting a seminar on the topic "Assessment of climate change impacts on the hydrology of a key Andean catchment of Ecuador" at Columbia University.
