Host Institutions
Fulbright Program Hosting Opportunities
Hosting a Fulbrighter is a great opportunity to internationalize your campus and create lasting bonds between individuals and institutions worldwide.
The U.S. Department of State offers several programs through which hosts may request Fulbrighters for their campuses.
The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
is a nine-month, non-degree program providing future teachers of English with the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency, and extend their knowledge of U.S. society and culture while strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities, and some high schools.
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. Priority is given to Minority Serving Institutions, community colleges, and small liberal arts colleges. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community. Approximately 50 grants are awarded annually worldwide.
The Fulbright European Union Scholar-in-Residence Program
aims to strengthen U.S. expertise in European Union Affairs. The program brings approximately three scholars and professionals from EU countries to U.S. college and university campuses for semester-long grants to give guest lectures and seminars, consult with faculty and students on research, engage in collaborative study and provide outreach to neighboring institutions and the local community.
The Fulbright Occasional Lecturer Fund (OLF)
enables Fulbright Visiting Scholars who are currently in the U.S. to accept guest lecturing invitations at colleges and universities. Scholars may apply for multiple OLF visits as long as those involve visits to minority serving colleges and universities through the OLF, as additional funds are available to scholars visiting such institutions.
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program for Iraq
brings cohorts of Iraqi scholars in select fields to U.S. institutions for 10 weeks for faculty development, research, and other guided study activities. The program is designed to equip grantees with knowledge and tools to build the capacity of universities in Iraq and to advance the education of future generations of Iraqis.
