Fulbright Opportunities for Professionals

Professionals, including writers, journalists, architects, and those in law and business are encouraged to apply for Fulbright grants.  An academic affiliation is not required.

For Mid-Career Professionals from Outside the U.S. - Humphrey Program

The Hubert H. Humphrey Program brings outstanding mid-career professionals from the developing world and societies in transition to the United States for one year. Fellows participate in a non-degree program of academic study and gain professional experience.

For Young Professionals - Student Program

Young professionals with a Bachelor's degree or the equivalent are eligible for the Fulbright Student Program. Applicants to the student program may have up to five years of professional study and/or experience in the field in which they are applying.

Applicants who have not earned a Bachelor's degree or the equivalent but who have extensive professional study and/or experience in fields in which they wish to pursue a project, may also be considered for the Fulbright Student Program.

Professionals with more than five years of experience should apply to the Fulbright Scholar Program.

For Experienced Professionals - Scholar Program

Professionals with more than five years experience may apply for the Fulbright Scholar Program. For applicants outside of academe, review criteria will include professional standing and accomplishments in the field to which they wish to pursue a research or teaching project.

In addition to the core U.S. Scholar Program, U.S. applicants in the professional fields should also consider the short-term Fulbright Specialist Program
