Grants are available for Mauritanians to pursue graduate study in the U.S.  Post-doctoral research and teaching opportunities are also available for Mauritanian scholars. Mauritanian students and teachers of English are also eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program.

    Opportunities in the U.S. for Mauritanians

    • The Fulbright Program in Mauritania is administered by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott.

    • Students

      Fulbright Foreign Student Program

      The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.

      Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA)

      The Fulbright FLTA program is a nine-month, non-degree program providing young teachers of English with the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency, and extend their knowledge of U.S. society and culture while strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities.

       

    • Scholars

      Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

      The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.

      Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program

      The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

    • Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends American scholars and professionals abroad to lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

      Fulbright Specialist Program

      The Fulbright Specialist Program, a short-term complement to the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).

      In Mauritania, Fulbright U.S. grantees are supported by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott.
