Fulbright offers grants to Sierra Leone for U.S. citizens in the student and scholar categories. Students can conduct research independently or toward a master's degree or Ph.D. dissertation. Scholars can lecture and/or conduct post-doctoral research. The Fulbright Specialist program is also available.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.
Graduating seniors and others at the bachelor's level are ineligible to apply to Sierra Leone and are encouraged to apply to another country in the region if possible.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Fulbright Specialist Program
The Fulbright Specialist Program
, a short-term complement to the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
