Map of Australia

Since 1949 over 1,800 Americans and 2,500 Australians have studied, researched, and lectured in Australia and the U.S. as Fulbright grantees. Fulbright Alumni include a distinguished list of Nobel- and Pulitzer Prize- winners, governors and senators, ambassadors and artists, prime ministers and heads of state, professors and scientists, Supreme Court Justices, and chief executive officers.

Grants are available annually for Australian students to study or conduct research in the U.S. for 3-12 months. Students may receive awards in all fields of study; however, some grants have specific fields of study or eligibility requirements. Scholars and mid-career professionals may receive grants to conduct research in the U.S.

Opportunities in the U.S. for Australians

Grants to Australia for U.S. citizens are offered in the student and scholar categories.  Awards are available annually for postgraduate students to engage in 8-12 months of research relevant to an American Ph.D. or to support enrollment in an Australian postgraduate program. American scholars can conduct research or lecture in Australia, and a distinguished scholar award is available for a leading U.S. professor of political science. Scholars also may engage in short-term projects in Australia through the Specialist Program.
