Map of Burma

The Fulbright Program in Burma began operating in 1948 with the establishment of the United States Educational Foundation in Burma. It was suspended in 1966 and reestablished in 1977. In 1988-89, all U.S. assistance programs to Burma, including the Fulbright program, were curtailed as a result of the military takeover. A limited number of Fulbright grants for Burmese students have been offered since 2006.

Grants are available for Burmese students to pursue a Master's degree in the U.S.
