The joint U.S.-Korean Fulbright Program began in 1950. The bilateral Korean-American Educational Commission (KAEC) was established in 1963.
Grants are available annually for Korean students to pursue Master's and Ph.D. degrees in the U.S.
Opportunities in the U.S. for Koreans
Grants to Korea for U.S. citizens are offered in the student and scholar categories. Awards are available annually to graduate students at all levels. In addition, awards are given to recent university graduates to be English Teaching Assistants (ETA) at elementary and secondary schools universities outside of Seoul. Grants are available for American scholars to conduct research or lecture in Korea. U.S. scholars also may engage in short-term projects in Korea through the Fulbright Specialists Program.
There is also an international educational administrators' (IEA) program, which sends participants on an intensive two week group program to learn more about Korean higher education, society and culture.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.
Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
The Fulbright FLTA Program
, a component of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, provides young teachers of English as a Foreign Language the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of American cultures and customs while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at colleges and universities in the United States. -
Scholars
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program enables U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.
Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) Program
The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.
In addition, Critical Language Enhancement Awards
are available to grantees for study of critical need foreign languages before their grant period.The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
