The Fulbright Program with Taiwan is administered by the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange and has been active since 1957.

Partial and full awards for scholars from Taiwan to pursue research in the U.S. are available. For students from Taiwan, partial and full awards are available for doctoral study in the U.S.

Opportunities in the U.S. for Taiwanese

Both student and scholar grants to Taiwan are offered for U.S. citizens. Awards are offered to graduate students to conduct research or language study, for internships for master’s degree holders or graduate students and for English Teaching Assistant grants for recent university graduates. Research or lecturing awards are offered for senior scholars. U.S. scholars may also conduct short-term consultation and lecture programs in Taiwan through the Fulbright Specialists program.

    • The Fulbright Program in Taiwan is administered by the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange in Taipei.

    • Students

      Fulbright Foreign Student Program

      The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.

    • Scholars

      Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

      The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.

      Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program

      The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

    • In Taiwan, Fulbright U.S. grantees are supported by the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange in Taipei.

    • Students

      Fulbright U.S. Student Program

      The Fulbright U.S. Student Program enables U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.

      Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) Program

      The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.

      In addition, Critical Language Enhancement Awards are available to grantees for study of critical need foreign languages before their grant period.

      The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

      Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends American scholars and professionals abroad to lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

      Fulbright Specialist Program

      The Fulbright Specialist Program, a short-term complement to the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
