Grants are available for German students to pursue Master's and Ph.D. degrees in the U.S. in all fields of study and for Foreign Language Teaching Assistants to assist in German language instruction at U.S. universities. Research, lecturing, and combination research/lecture grants are offered for German scholars in all academic disciplines.
Opportunities in the U.S. for Germans
Grants to Germany for U.S. citizens are offered in the student and scholar categories. Students are eligible to receive full, partial, and travel-only grants to carry out independent or Ph.D. dissertation research. In addition, U.S. students can apply for English Teaching Assistant grants to teach English at a German university or secondary school. Lecturer/research grants are available for U.S. scholars. Specialist grants are also available to U.S. academics and professionals.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.
Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
The Fulbright FLTA program, a component of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, provides young teachers of English as a Foreign Language the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of American cultures and customs while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at colleges and universities in the United States.

Scholars
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.
Fulbright European Union Scholar-in-Residence (EUSIR) Program
The Fulbright EUSIR Program aims to strengthen U.S. expertise in EU Affairs. The program brings scholars and professionals from EU countries to U.S. college and university campuses for semester-long grants to give guest lectures and seminars, consult with faculty and students on research, engage in collaborative study and provide outreach to neighboring institutions and the local community

Students
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.
Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) Program
The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.
Fulbright Travel Grants
These grants may be used to supplement other German grants administered by IIE, awards from other sources that do not cover travel expenses, or personal funds.

The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars
program helps international education professionals and senior higher education officials from the United States create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries.Fulbright German Studies Seminar
Participants of the Fulbright German Studies Seminars
examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each seminar has a specific thematic focus related to current German society and culture.The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
