Egypt
In 1949 the United States and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a protocol creating the Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange Between the United States of America and the Arab Republic of Egypt, also called the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt. Fulbright Program opportunities for Egyptians to study, research and teach in the U.S. are plentiful. A significant number of Egyptian students study at American universities, and there are several options for Egyptian scholars and teachers to advance and share their expertise with American audiences. The Commission has expanded its outreach activities to Egyptian regional universities in order to increase the visibility of the Fulbright program among Egyptian students and scholars outside Cairo. Additionally, the U.S. recognizes Arabic as a critical foreign language and invites students and young teachers to teach their native language at American universities through the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program.

Famous for its ancient civilization, Egypt is one of the leading political and cultural centers of the Middle East. The country hosts internationally known universities that provide opportunities for American grantees to study, research, and teach. The Commission is committed to enhancing the field of American studies and increasing the diversity of Americans participating in international educational exchanges. In addition, the program allows students to enhance their Arabic language skills through participation in Center for Arabic Study Abroad Program.
