Since its inception in 1950, the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) has awarded over 4,550 Fulbright grants to Indians in almost every field of academic endeavor. USIEF's grants are for leadership development in three main sectors: research; lecturing to promote mutual understanding in area studies (both American and Indian) as well as in areas of contemporary relevance to the U.S. and India; and professional training in newly emerging areas of importance to India such as environmental sciences and agriculture.
Fulbright Program Opportunities in the U.S. for Indians

USIEF's grants are for leadership development in three main sectors: research; lecturing to promote mutual understanding in area studies (both American and Indian) as well as in areas of contemporary relevance to the U.S. and India; and professional training in newly emerging areas of importance to India such as environmental sciences and agriculture. USIEF continues to promote several Fulbright Muslim outreach initiatives by placing U.S. Fulbright scholars at leading Muslim institutions in India.

Students
Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.
Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
The Fulbright FLTA Program, a component of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, provides young teachers of English as a Foreign Language the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of American cultures and customs while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at colleges and universities in the United States.
Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships for Leadership Development
The Fulbright Master’s Fellowships for Leadership Development are designed for outstanding Indians, preferably in the age group of 25-30 years, to pursue a master’s degree at selected U.S. colleges and universities in the areas of public administration, economics, communication studies and environment. The program is specially targeted at highly motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree, have at least three years professional or work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities.
Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowships
These research fellowships are offered, for a maximum period of nine months, in the following areas of specialization the United States, special education, conflict resolution, museum studies, arts/culture management and heritage conservation.
Fulbright-Nehru CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management
The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) announce the "Fulbright-CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management." Indian business managers whose employers would be willing to bear 80% of the total cost, may compete to attend an specially-designed management program to be conducted for 10 weeks at the Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business (TSB) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions for an academic semester to a full academic year.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program
The Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for teachers to participate in direct exchanges of positions with colleagues from other countries for a semester or a year. By living and working abroad, exchange teachers gain an understanding and appreciation of different educational systems and cultures, and enrich their schools and communities by providing students with new perspectives about the world in which they live.
Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Program
The Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Program is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in teaching in the U.S. and abroad. Twenty-four highly talented U.S. and international teachers are selected to receive a grant to study at a university, conduct research, teach classes and workshops, and develop a project pertaining to their field of educational inquiry during their semester overseas.

Students
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.
In addition, Critical Language Enhancement Awards are available to grantees for study of Bangla/Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi or Punjabi before their grant period.
Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) Program
The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends American scholars and professionals abroad to lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
Fulbright Specialist Program
The Fulbright Specialist Program, a short-term complement to the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
Fulbright International Education Administrators Program
The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars program helps international education professionals and senior higher education officials from the United States create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries.
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
