The Fulbright Program provides opportunities for Guatemalan graduate students to pursue advanced studies in the U.S. Short-term visiting researcher opportunities to the U.S. are available for Guatemalan scholars.  In addition, U.S. institutions may request a Scholar-in-Residence.

Fulbright grants to Guatemala are available to U.S. citizens in the student and scholar categories. Awards are available for post-graduate study or research. English Teaching Assistantships are also available. Lecturer/research grants and Specialist grants are available for U.S. faculty and professionals.

    Opportunities in the U.S. for Guatemalans

    • The Fulbright Program in  Guatemala is administered by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City.

    • Students

      Fulbright Foreign Student Program

      The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer.

    • Scholars

      Fulbright Visting Scholar Program

      The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to conduct short-term research (approximately three months) at U.S. institutions.

      Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program

      The Fulbright SIR Program brings scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. college and university campuses for a semester or an academic year, primarily to teach undergraduate courses. SIR grantees also assist in developing curricula and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and the community.

    • In Guatemala, Fulbright U.S. grantees are supported by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City.

    • Students

      Fulbright U.S. Student Program

      The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year.

      Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) Program

      The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.

      The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

      Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship

      The new Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship affords participants the opportunity to serve in professional placements in foreign government ministries or institutions and gain hands-on public sector experience while also carrying out an academic research/study project.

      Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends American scholars and professionals abroad to lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

      Fulbright Specialist Program

      The Fulbright Specialist Program, a short-term complement to the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.

      The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
